Collection “Sneak Peek”

Hi everyone.  Happy comic book release day!!  I continue to work on getting my collection website up and running just as soon as possible.  I realize it’s taking a long time and, for that, I apologize.  You don’t know how badly I’m wanting to have it all finished and available for you.  It’s going to be so cool and I thank you for your continued patience and support.

In the meantime, as promised, here’s a small “teaser” look into my TMNT collection.  A collection 25+ years in the making and growing every day (especially on Wednesdays 😉 ).  This is just a snippet of all the TMNT goodness that’s in store for you when tmnt-ninjaturtles.com officially launches this spring.  Hope you enjoy!

UPDATE:  Some of you are asking what my entire TMNT collection consists of.  Well, my main collecting passion is the comic books, trades, hardcovers, etc.  I consider myself a “completist” (or “completionist”) in this area…that means I seek to have at least one copy of every TMNT comic book, variant cover, error, limited book, trade, etc. ever made.  However, I also collect some of the action figures and have a lot of TMNT memorabilia from the TMNT glory days of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Hmmm…since my website database has been built, maybe it would be helpful to share with you the following numbers.  This will give you an idea of the size of my collection.  Keep in mind that every database entry is a unique item.  For instance, TMNT #1 (IDW) Cover A, B, C, etc. will each get their own database entry (each with their own image or picture).

  • Comics – currently 1,215 database entries
  • Action Figures – currently 219 database entries
  • Memorabilia – currently 212 database entries

And, as if that weren’t enough, the database currently contains 2,601 unique images and pictures !!  Wow !!!

Thats amazing man! I’d love to just have a set of the “normal” cover for that book!!

Bringing anything with you for FCBD? I’ve had a ton of people ask me to get stuff signed for them! I’ve had to turn most of them away! I can’t carry all my stuff plus everyone elses!

Looking forward to possibly meeting another Turtles fan!

Hey Mike, I’m thinking of bringing a few items for Kevin to sign (and maybe Peter if I can get up to Shellback). Hope to meet a lot of you all there.

        Looking forward to it!

I have to thin out my box of stuff. Every year I do the same thing, dig out everything under the sun for signings and then stash all but a few books back where they belong…. I think I got Ed McGuinness once at jetpack (before they were Jetpack) and I had him sign something like 40-50 books, posters and the really nice Superman Wall Scroll his art was made into…

I digress… See you there! Look for a guy wearing a jetpack… I should be the only one. haha

Sounds good Mike. I’m thinking of having a T-shirt with my site logo made and my name on the back of it. If I do that, that’s how you’ll find me 🙂

plus a jetpack is easy to spot…

What are the blue & yellow ones? Are those both sets of fakes? I remember seeing somewhere a set of yellow fakes…..also…what is graded in the back there?

Hey Nick…what you’re looking at is the most complete set of Gobbledygook books ever to be collected in one place. The originals up front, the yellow counterfeits with fake signatures and numbers middle right, the infamous blue counterfeits from the mid-80’s middle left, and in the back…the only (and last) issues of Gobbledygook #1 and #2 to be graded and slabbed 😉

Yup. That’s all of them… unless you count the only error copy of #1 in my collection *loving poke in the ribs*

Do you have a paper trail for those PGX slabbed copies? I only ask for your own benefit. I mean…theres a good reason why they dont slab those books.

Also, interestingly enough,I’ve discovered two versions of yellows so far (at least for #2). One is a pale yellow version with the fake signature, and the other is a deeper yellow (almost orange) without the fake sigs.

Hey Stephan ! Great to hear from you. That error #1 copy of yours is one of a kind I’m afraid. Super cool piece! For the PGX copies there’s a bit of a paper trail. My yellow GGs have the fake sigs of Eastman. Who owns copies of the darker yellow versions? Would love to see pics. Thanks for visiting!

Dude! That is so cool…it totally is darker than the other. Do you think that it’s the paper itself or maybe the one with the fake sigs had sun damage or something? Is there anything visibly different about the two (other than the sig)? I’ll have to verify this when I get home but I think that one of the blue copies is missing the apostrophe in “Laird’s” on the back cover. Thanks for sharing those pics Stephan.

Im as certain as i can be that it’s different paper, and I have a #1 that matches the dark orange one (I actually dont have a #1 light yellow one. The only reason I have that two is cause Kevin gave it to me a couple years ago). And yes, there is another difference. The dark orange ones are about a quarter inch shorter.

Crazy! Well, at least we know now that all the colored ones are fake. Back in the days before the internet there was hardly any information about what was real and what wasn’t. Cool pieces of TMNT history.

Yeah. The previous owner of my dark orange ones bought them in the late 80’s under the impression that they were real.

Looking forward to seeing all the Turtle toys, toilet paper, towels, and tupperware you might have!

    Or is it just comics?!

Hey man. I’ve actually updated this post with some details about my collection. Hope that helps. 🙂 And I don’t think I have any TMNT toilet paper or tupperware but I’m pretty sure there’s a towel and there are definitely toys.
