Has anyone seen in hand the RI Kirkby cover with the title banner at the top? I’ve seen images like this on ebay which i thought i had bought but the one i received has the banner along the bottom as shown on this site. I’d prefer the banner at the top in order to display the Kirkby signature!

Sam, the RI cover image that has the title on the top was the solicitation image that came out back in July for pre-sales. That’s what some sellers are using for their auctions but it’s not the actual cover. Only the one that you see posted here is the actual cover…these images come directly from IDW when the issues go to print.

Any news on the hero initiative, or hotcoimcs variant? I email hotcoimcs a week or so ago as well and got no response.

Here are my thoughts on the variants we haven’t seen for sale yet. NYCC this weekend will likely have the following for sale: Both Dimension X variants, Hero Initiative, IDW Convention, maybe the SDCAG (possibly even the dinner variant – who knows). The only straggler is the HotComics variant and I can’t find any way to get in touch with that guy. I’ve tried every email I had, could find, etc. and just no response. But, my guess is that by the start (or middle) of NYCC tomorrow you’ll see nearly all variants showing up via eBay from those attending NYCC. Just a guess though.

Looks like there is another AF variant from blindbox. Check out there twitter

^ Yep. From my conversations with Court at Blindbox, I was under the impression that the next 15 would be for issues later than #50 (with the next three being #52), but their Twitter calls the Leo one a #50 variant too. Now I’m both confused, and really sad that those IDW TMNT figures aren’t available to buy as actual action figures.

The more info. that comes out about the Blindbox issues the more confused I get. I think we’ll all just have to learn as we go. But, one thing’s clear…you won’t be able to just select what it is that you want…you’ll buy “blind” in hopes you get the cover you want. Which has gotten me to thinking…we should create a group of collectors that can share the covers they have and offer them to others, maybe in exchange for covers they didn’t get. Some kind of cover exchange program. Maybe we can do that here on my site…not sure how exactly to do that but just a thought.

This is the week the issue is suppose to come out. Yet all the RE still not available for purchase

I know…seems odd. Maybe they’re just waiting until after release. I’d say we will see most of them available this week.

Am I correct that the Blindbox variant(s) can’t be directly ordered, and you have to subscribe and take a chance on getting it? Kinda lame.

Well, I stand (somewhat) corrected. When I subscribed, I put a note about the TMNT variant, and JUST got this email right after I posted here:
      “HI Corey,

Received your order (thanks!), and saw the note about the TMNT 50 variant. This particular variant is an exclusive incentive for annual subscribers – so you would receive this book FREE if you sign up for a full year in advance. Otherwise, though, this particular issue will not be available for individual sale.

Also – this Shredder AF cover is actually the first in a series of 16 different TMNT action figure covers we will be releasing over coming months. Of the remaining 15 covers, the first three will be released for TMNT 52 in November. Subscribers will automatically receive one of these AF variants at random. Future releases will also include three AF variants at a time, also randomly filled via “Blindvariant” – but future releases will be made available for individual purchase through the site, and will not necessarily be included in the monthly Blindbox (as much as we love TMNT, we don’t want to force all of our customers to receive Turtles covers six five times in the next year!). “

Thanks for all the good info Corey. So, (correct me if I’m wrong here)…it sounds like, if we want to get the #50 Blindbox variant, we must sign up for one of the 12-month subscriptions. After that, the remaining 15 variants will be available for direct purchase OR could also be included randomly as a Blindvariant?

From my emails with Court at Blindbox, that’s correct. I’m not sure if you have to be a current Blindbox subscriber to get to purchase the others individually or not, but if you sign up to get the Shredder one, it seems like you’ll still be a subscriber by the time the others come out anyway.

Corey, thanks for the input. For issue #52 can I purchase multiple blind variants to increase my odds of getting all three TMNT variants that month?

JoJo, it does sound like you’ll be able to purchase as many blind variants for #52 as you want (unless, for some reason, they limit the quantity per person).

Have 16 TMNT Blindboxcomics covers been confirmed?? Or was he talking about 16 #50 various retailer covers?

There are 16 placeholders on the back cover…only one is filled in (Shredder). The rest have “?” on them. Seems he plans to do 16 of them or else I don’t know why he’d have all those blank placeholders.

My research shows that the CEO of blindboxcomics is also an agent for a few comic artists! I can only assume he is using the TMNT brand and fan base to get the comics of the artists he represents in our hands and profit very well from it at the same time. I don’t doubt he will have a TMNT variant every year if his kickstarter works. IDW should screen the variant retailers better. BTW…the second paragraph on their site in the “about section” is such garbage! We know its about the $$ and not the challenge, don’t insult us.

I’m kind of curious how a startup that hasn’t yet been funded is going to create (and purchase) 16 separate Retailer Exclusives. But, I will be waiting and trying to get every single one if they come out.

After reading the Blindbox FAQ, it seems like getting the Blindbox variants will be a luck of the draw each month. For a TMNT collector, this will be frustrating if one keeps getting the non-TMNT variants. Throw in some rare chase variants and Blindbox will then become a true pain in the a$$. I am not a fan of this concept.

I checked more of the Retailer Exclusives pages and they haven’t shown any of these variants on the sites. Just seeing if anyone were able to find them. Thanks

Jetpack is up for pre-order on their website now as well. The blindbox website is up and running, but it looks like getting any of the ones in the series they’re doing is gonna be a crap-shoot.

Wow! That blindbox deal is gonna take some serious studying to figure out how to get just the variant you want. I’ll read up on things. Thanks.

Looks like it’ll be one a month for the next 16 months with different characters. It’s a pretty neat idea. I’m just hoping that the TMNT variants are one of the more common ones, otherwise it’ll be a pain to get them all 🙁

Great news! If you sign up for the 12 month Blindbox Variant Subscription then you’re guaranteed TMNT 50 Action Figure variant.

Elias, it sounds like THE ONLY way to get the TMNT 50 variant is via this “Annual” subscription. I don’t like this at all. Oh well…

If you look at Robert Atkins’ blog, (http://robertatkinsart.blogspot.com/) he’s been asked to do over a dozen TMNT variants for this series, so signing up for the annual subscription may be worthwhile, since you’re gonna (hopefully) get more TMNT goodness by getting the Blind variants. It would be kinda lame if that’s the *only* way to get that cover though.

Does anyone know a way to get any of these variants besides subscription, as in online ordering? Besides the c&p and jet packs exclusive.

You’re right Corey. I saw it mentioned in the IDW Limited email re: the evening with Kevin Eastman in October. I’m feverishly trying to get IDW to send me the info. and images of all the RE covers. I hope to have them just as soon as they are released to me.

I just heard from IDW and the RE covers are not all finalized so it will still be at least another week or so. Still not sure about the release date either. I’m seeing conflicting info of Sept. 30 and Oct. 7. Just have to wait and see how it all shakes out.

Hey Mike yes they are indeed valid and legit variants. They were illustrated by Superman artist Kenneth Rocafort and from what I see they are super limited (500 print run) from what I saw in the CGC forums.

For as long as I can remember I have been a fan of the turtles 🙂 And every time a new incarnation of them sets out to settle the score with shredder turns me into a mess with all the excitement.
I can’t wait for #50 to be published.
