SUMMARY:

No TMNT appearance – but key to the existence of the Ninja Turtles.  Frank Miller’s Ronin six-issue series from DC Comics (released just months prior to TMNT #1) partially inspired Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird to create the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Ronin’s influence on the TMNT is most notable in the design of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ title/logo, which adopted an identical layout of stacked author/title combination with similar font and large block letters.  This title/logo design was used on most issues of TMNT Vol. I through TMNT #49 and is still one of the most iconic and recognizable Ninja Turtles logos, heavily influencing the Ninja Turtles title design used by IDW Publishing.  Additionally, the overall cover design for TMNT #1 borrowed extensively from the Ronin cover designs (especially Ronin Book One); note the similar black borders, red/black “cross-hatched” artwork, title design/layout, and font.
