SILVER EDITION (1 of 100) / Hand-numbered and autographed by Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird on the back cover.
This rare variant of Turtlemania is limited to only 100 copies (two of which are owned by TMNT: A Collection – #57 & #66). As of 2019, this book has become highly sought-after for its rarity alone (not just by TMNT collectors), causing prices to escalate astronomically. The same is happening for any of the 10 copies of Turtlemania GOLD.
For the sake of documentation, I’m utilizing this page to compile and document everything known about Turtlemania SILVER, including images of every copy of Turtlemania SILVER to have surfaced along with key details of each for reference. If you own a copy of Turtlemania SILVER and would like to provide high-res pictures of your book (or any other details) to be included on this page, please get in touch with me by email (or use the Contact Me form on the right side of the Blog main page).
Facts about Turtlemania SILVER:
Only 100 copies are known to exist (with a few outlying proofs, etc.).
Each of the 100 books were hand-numbered (#1 of 100, etc.). each signed on the back cover by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.
The placement of the numbering is ALWAYS between the two Turtles on the back cover.
The placement of the signatures is ALWAYS above the two Turtles with Peter Laird’s signature (in black pen) above Kevin Eastman’s (in blue pen).
The spine of SILVER copies are notoriously split or cracked due to the poor paper stock used for the cover – this causes the grade for many SILVER copies to be lower than they actually appear to the naked eye.
Many SILVER copies also suffer from rusting staples (possibly due to the humidity in Florida) – but it seems SILVER copies suffer from this more often than Regular or GOLD copies.
Known Turtlemania SILVER editions:
#000 of 000 (Proof cover only)– ungraded – current owner unknown (although the current owner is assumed to be the person that posted this YouTube video) – in the video, this owner also claims to own a Turtlemania GOLD which likely isn’t true since he curiously doesn’t show it or describe details about it (i.e., which number he owns, the back cover sketch, etc.); not attached to a book and not signed by Eastman or Laird but is signed on the back cover by Robert Wilson (creator of the Turtlemania books); similar proof covers exist for the GOLD version as well. Current owner states it was acquired from Heritage Auctions (likely around 2015).
#00 of 00 (Proof)– ungraded – current owner known (Mitchell – HeebyGB); a copy of Turtlemania that contains three covers (Gold, Silver, & Regular-white) with “Proof / 00” written on one of the covers along with “#1 / 3000” and Robert Wilson’s signature. This copy is in very poor condition and was sold on eBay for $3,050 on Sept. 19, 2018. This is the same “#00 of 00 (Proof)” copy listed on the Turtlemania GOLD page.
#00 of 00 Sample (Cover only)– ungraded – current owner known (E.T.); not attached to a book but is signed by Eastman & Laird; “Sample / 00” written on the back. This cover is in excellent condition and is flat / unfolded. Similar proof covers exist for the GOLD version as well (one of which the owner of this Silver cover also owns).
