Happy Monday everyone. Typically on Mondays I update the comic book release dates. However, this morning IDW released information regarding port issues that are causing a delay to all their books planned for release on Feb. 18. Due to this, I don’t have any release date changes to post today. IDW’s full message is below.
One thing that is still very unclear is the release date of TMNT New Animated Adventures #20 (which I have listed for release this week on Feb. 11). And it doesn’t seem related to the port issues. I’ll explain…
Diamond has had TMNTNAA #20 listed for release on Feb. 18 for weeks now. IDW also did not include TMNTNAA #20 on their list of Feb. 11 books. However, this weekend (Feb. 13-15) is the Amazing Arizona Comic Con in Phoenix, AZ (at which Kevin Eastman will be signing on Sat & Sun). There is a TMNTNAA #20 RE Amazing Con variant cover that was created for distribution at this show. So, even without the shipping delay announced by IDW today, TMNTNAA #20 would have HAD to be released by Feb. 11 (before the Amazing Arizona Comic Con on Feb. 13). This is because Amazing Cons has a disclaimer that this variant will be distributed only to attendees of the Amazing Arizona Comic Con. This IDW shipping mess just makes things that much cloudier.
Was it always planned to release this Amazing Con variant to AACC attendees one week earlier than the Regular and Subscription covers of TMNTNAA #20? If so, maybe this variant already arrived in port and will be at the AACC for attendees. Or, is this a scheduling snafu and Con organizers didn’t (and maybe even don’t) realize they’ll not have this book in time for the Con? If all covers of this book will be released Feb. 18 (as currently listed by Diamond), then it seems attendees of the Amazing Arizona Comic Con are going to be disappointed/upset. If this happens, what will AACC do about this? My guess is that Amazing Cons will simply cancel existing orders for the book and distribute this book only to attendees of one of their future Cons.
For me, there’s both good and bad news regarding this. Good news…I’ll get to find out for myself since I’ll be in attendance at the AACC this weekend. Bad news…I’m mentally preparing to be one of the disappointed/upset attendees of AACC that won’t be getting this variant. 🙁
Due to the ongoing problems at West coast ports, our normal shipping procedures have been completely interrupted, causing unpredictable delays. Regrettably, this has resulted in all our books planned for release on 2/18 to be delayed. We’ve looked at every possible scenario to prevent this, but the situation is completely beyond our control. We are taking steps to improve this for the immediate future, but the books and products that are currently on the water cannot be re-directed. We will be updating our weekly releases and keeping you informed as the situation works toward a resolution. We understand this is not an ideal situation, and apologize for any inconvenience this causes, and look forward to things getting back to normal in ensuing weeks.
